Welcome

Hello, I’m Ruth

I'm a specialist dyslexia assessor with over 18 years' experience supporting students in further and higher education.

Over the past 10 years I've carried out diagnostic assessments for students aged 16 and above, producing reports that meet the requirements of Student Finance England for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) and Access to Work.

I understand that arranging an assessment can feel overwhelming. My aim is to provide a friendly, supportive experience where you'll feel comfortable throughout the process and leave with a clear understanding of your strengths, any difficulties you experience, and practical recommendations to support your learning.

Why choose me?

  • Over 18 years' experience in further and higher education

  • More than 10 years diagnosing dyslexia in adults (16+)

  • PATOSS Registered Assessor since 2015

  • Holds a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC: FLI6523)

  • Enhanced DBS checked and fully insured

  • Experienced with DSA reports

  • Masters in Adult Dyslexia Diagnosis and Support

  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

Diagnostic dyslexia assessments for HE students and DSA

What happens during an assessment?

  1. Initial enquiry by email

  2. Assessment booked and link to online background questionnaire sent

  3. Email with Zoom link sent along with a list of what’s needed in the assessment

  4. The diagnostic assessment takes between 2.5-3 hours with a break if needed. The assessment covers a range of activities that examine reading, writing, spelling, and cognitive profile. It's nothing to worry about, and it's not something you can revise for. It's not an assessment of your ability to do the course.

  5. A comprehensive report is written

  6. Support recommendations are included in the report

  7. The report is emailed as a password protected PDF, which is suitable for uploading to the Student Finance England portal

Ready to take the next step?

Whether you're preparing for university, already studying or simply want to understand your learning profile, I'd be happy to answer any questions and explain the assessment process.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the assessment take?

You need to allow 2.5-3 hours for the full diagnostic assessment.

Is the assessment online?

Yes. You will need a laptop or computer (not a phone or tablet) with a webcam and microphone (built in is fine), plus a good internet connection. Your camera will need to be on for the duration of the assessment.

Will the report be accepted for Disabled Students' Allowance?

Yes, all of my reports have been accepted for DSA funding.

What happens after the assessment?

You wouldn't have your diagnosis on the day because I have to score all the activities we do in the assessment and I write this up with your background information. You will have your report with the diagnosis within 10 working days of the assessment. The report will be sent as a password protected PDF.

How much does the assessment cost?

A full diagnostic assessment costs £425. Students can often get help with funding for an assessment from their university.
